Lots has been said and written on the CWG.. and the way India is hosting it... Now that Shera is getting accolades for pulling it off well...I believe India just got lucky.. We gambled and the dice roll in our favor..
If you draw a comparison between how China hosted the Olympics and how India is hosting the CWG..
There are two main stark differences that one would come across..
First..Planning and management.. Indians lack this.. I think it is not there in our genes..Chinese were prepared a year in advance.. They called the world media and popular critics to visit the games sites and review them 6 months before the games started..India on the other hand was found brushing the dust under the carpet a few days before the inauguration ceremony..
Second..Media.. Media is the third pillar of our democracy.."Vox Populi"..Voice of the people.. But, it has become a circus in the past few years.. 95% of the so called news channels and newspapers should be categorized as "entertainment". China has communism and control over their media so only restricted information goes out..This ensures that only favorable impression is formed about the country.. Whereas in India.. I dont understand why don't the media houses understand their responsibility.. They see only business..I am not saying they should not write about what the govt. is doing wrong but they should "report" in an unbiased way...Which they don't do..These channels & papers carry bias of the editor and media house..What I mean to say is ask a question.. Couldnt they find any good thing about the CWG which could have been reported..? ? When the world is watching...We were washing our dirty laundry in front of them..
Anyways all is well that ends well...Hope the stakeholders take key learnings out of the whole fiasco..and emerge as better individuals and planners...
